When is the Competition?


    Thursday, October 24th, 2019 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at New Image College's Granville Campus located @ 987 Granville Street. Competitors must arrive by 4:00 pm.

When does Registration end and when will participants be announced?


    Registration ends Friday, October 18th by midnight and you will be notified by email and/or* phone if you have been selected on Saturday, October 19th. If you are not contacted by midnight on October 19th you have not been selected to participate in this competition, but are more than welcome to join the event to support the participants.

Categories | Pro Level - Special Effects Makeup Students & Professional Artists


    The overall theme for this category is Cyborgs.

    We would like to see all sort of different characters turned into cyborgs. That means no matter what character you are creating a cyborg touch/feature must be incorporated! The overall character will be judged, so make sure to plan for costuming as well. You can also integrate gadgets and other accessories to bring your character to life. Use your imagination and go for it!

    All competitors will be given the same prosthetic piece on the day of the competition and will be required to incorporate it to the overall Cyborg character design. Competitors will have 4 hours to complete the full cyborg character look, including costumes, props etc. You can incorporate other prosthetic pieces if you would like, but the pieces provided by New Image College MUST be used/incorporated in your look. All competitors should provide face charts and a brief paragraph of their artistic inspiration to present to the judges. Please also make sure to take a “before” photo of your model.

Categories | Junior Level - 18 & Under


    The overall theme for this category is Halloween.

    We would like to see all sort beasts, zombies, ghosts, ogres, skulls, etc! All that spooky, scary, gruesome, and gory stuff! The overall character will be judged, so make sure to plan for costuming as well. You can also integrate gadgets and other accessories to bring your character to life. Use your imagination and go for it!

    Competitors from Entry level category will have 2 hours to complete a full Halloween character look, including costumes, props etc. Please also make sure to take a “before” photo of your model.

How do I register?


  1. Submit your completed online Application supplying your personal contact information and a picture or PDF of your Photo ID for age verification purposes.
  2. Upload examples of your best work depending on the category you are registering for: 

    • Pro Level, 6 photos showcasing your best special effects/prosthetic work 
    • Junior Level, 3 photos showcasing your best current makeup work 

    *We have limited spots and will only be accepting 20 participants for the Pro-Level category & 10 participants for the Junior-Level category.
  3. Pay the $10 non-refundable registration fee via Interac e-Transfer from your account to payments@bloodybrushes.com (please use bloodybrushes as the security answer for payment authorization) which covers this selection process. Registration ends Friday, October 18th by midnight and you will be notified by email and/or* phone if you have been selected on Saturday, October 19th. If you are not contacted by midnight on October 19th you have not been selected to participate in this competition, but are more than welcome to join the event to support the participants.

  4. *All of the requirements above must be fulfilled for your application to be taken into consideration.

Additional Rules


    1. One application per person.
    2. One model per competitor.
    3. No assistants will be permitted.
    4. The competitor must apply all make-up by him/herself.
    5. Nudity is not allowed.

    On the day of the competition you must:

    1. Bring all of the makeup/products + appliances you will need (paints, air guns, air compressors, hairdryers, curling iron, etc.)
    2. Use the prosthetic piece provided by New Image College. Use of other/additional prosthetics pieces is also allowed (for category PRO only).
    3. Have your models arrive with no make-up at 4:30pm prior to the start of the competition.
    4. Bring Face charts + a brief story for your character (Pro Level only).
    5. Bring a photo of your model.
    6. Supply their own make-up.

Criteria


Competitors' make-up will be judged based on the following criteria:
  1. Character Design/Aesthetic/Unity
  2. Prosthetic piece application (for PRO category only)
  3. Theme adequacy
  4. Overall look
Each criteria will be worth a possible 20 points, with a score of 1 being the lowest and 20 being the highest.
